JSTU Connect / Support
JSTU Connect support
Everything you need to bring your devices together, and what to try when something does not work as expected. JSTU Connect is in active development and is not yet a production-ready application.
Support and feedback
For help with JSTU Connect on any platform, email support@jasonstu.cc.
The TestFlight Beta for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro is by invitation: apply with your email. If you are testing through TestFlight, send feedback and screenshots from the TestFlight app, or email us. Please include your devices, their system and app versions, how they were connected (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB or Bluetooth), what you did and what you expected. Do not send pairing codes, keys, invitation codes or network addresses.
Getting started
JSTU Connect works between two or more of your own devices, each running the app, on the same local network or connected by cable. It runs on Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro and Windows 11 PCs. No account is needed. When the app first asks for Local Network access, allow it: discovery, pairing and every connection depend on it.
Nearby devices appear in Workspace. On Mac, iPhone and iPad, Bluetooth discovery is optional and off by default; turn it on in Settings if you want devices to find each other that way as well. On Windows, keep your network set to Private: the app accepts connections on private networks only.
Pairing two devices
Select the other device and choose Connect. The other device asks whether to accept. Once accepted, both devices show a six-digit code: compare them, and choose Codes Match on both devices only if they are the same. Trust is saved only after both people confirm. Pairing works the same way between Apple devices and Windows.
If a device does not appear, add it by address: on Mac, open Connect Devices and add a Manual Address, or use Create an Invitation on This Mac on one Mac and Use Invitation Code… on the other. On iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro, choose Add Manually.
Before pairing, nearby devices can see this device’s name. Turn off Show Name to Nearby Devices to show its model name instead.
Working with a paired device
- Check Connection
- Measures response time to the paired device. Under Preferred Connections you can choose the paths it may use; prepared standby paths take over if an interface such as Wi-Fi or a cable drops. On Apple Vision Pro, Open Checks Window keeps a check in a window of its own.
- Control JSTU Workspace
- On iPhone and iPad, moves the pointer and clicks inside the JSTU Connect window on a paired Mac. It does not control other apps. Choose Stop Control to end it.
- Share Input and Prepare to Receive
- On Apple Vision Pro, Share Input sends pointer movement and a separate Click to a paired device; opening or tapping the pad never clicks. To receive, allow Pointer for that device in Permissions, open the Pointer Test Canvas and choose Prepare to Receive. Input stays inside the app.
- Verify Compute Performance
- Runs a fixed, bounded calculation on the paired device and reports the result. No files, code or personal content are sent.
- Shared Insights
- Shows a paired device’s status and the permissions you grant it. A device shares readings only after its owner turns on Share Device Status, as a Summary or Summary & Detailed Readings; it is off by default.
Mesh (experimental)
Mesh lets devices you already trust help others meet, see and reach one another. It is off by default and available on Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro. Turn on Mesh in Settings only when you want to try it.
- Allow Device Introductions
- Lets a device you trust introduce you to another device it trusts. Choose Connect on the new device’s page; the other device shows a notice and can choose Disconnect or Forget. A new device receives no permissions.
- Share Through This Device
- On a trusted device’s page. Lets your permitted status travel on through that device, including to devices you have not trusted. It never grants control, compute or connection-check access.
- Adapter
- Under This Device. Lets this device forward permitted status and authorized sessions for others; relayed sessions stay encrypted end to end. Devices taking part can see route identities and the keys of devices in between. Adapter starts off every time the app opens.
- Bluetooth Security Trial
- On Mac, iPhone and iPad. Chooses how trusted devices exchange status over Bluetooth while you test it. Application TLS is always used, and Bluetooth discovery must also be on.
- Stop Mesh Activity
- Ends every relayed session. Stop All does the same and also turns Adapter off.
- Forgotten Devices
- A device you forget is not introduced again automatically. Choose Reconnect or Find Nearby when you want it back.
Stop, disconnect or forget
- Stop
- Ends one activity on both devices. Stop All (Stop All Activity on Apple Vision Pro) ends every incoming and outgoing session at once.
- Disconnect Temporarily
- Pauses a paired device while the app is running, keeping its trust and permissions and suppressing automatic reconnection. Choose Reconnect to continue; stopped work does not restart by itself.
- Forget Device…
- Removes the device’s trust and permissions. You will need to pair again to use it.
Troubleshooting
- A device does not appear
- Make sure both devices run JSTU Connect and are on the same network or connected by cable, then choose Discover Again. Check that Local Network access is allowed: on iPhone, iPad and Apple Vision Pro in Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, and on Mac in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network. On Windows, check that the network is set to Private. You can also add the device by address.
- Pairing does not complete
- Requests expire after a short time. Start pairing again with both apps open, and confirm on both devices only if the codes match. If the app says pairing was not confirmed, forget the device and pair again.
- Check Connection is unavailable
- The other device has not allowed connection checks for this device. On the other device, turn on Connection Checks for this one in Shared Insights or Permissions.
- A device shows no status
- That device has not turned on Share Device Status, or has not yet exchanged status after pairing.
- No permitted mesh path is available
- Each device needs Mesh on and introductions allowed, and any device in the middle needs Adapter on. Adapter turns off when the app reopens and after Stop All.
- Known limits
- Apple Vision Pro has no Bluetooth, AR or system-wide pointer control, and some of its permission switches may not animate while still working. Bluetooth status between Mac and iPhone or iPad is a trial and can need a retry. The Windows app does not yet share device status, send pointer input or take part in Mesh.
